•Prevention Achievements:
Of 5,000 prevention coalitions in the country, the Ray County Coalition was one of four to be recognized nationally; this same coalition in partnership with Tri-County received designation as an Exceptional Rural Coalition.
• When an unfortunate underage drinking case arose, the Tri-County Prevention Team, in concert with the Platte County Prosecutor and Kansas City Police Department, joined forces with regional and national media coverage both for legal prosecution and for maximizing the importance of alcohol prevention and awareness.
• Youth With Vision won a statewide award for the most effective social marketing message that underage drinking is a destructive choice.
Treatment Highlights:
• Initiated the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program to better serve individuals with borderline personality disorders who exhibit such self-harm behaviors as self-cutting and urges to suicide. We offered local training and helped the Department of Mental Health to train the Northwest Region.
• Strengthened our ability to provide integrated services to those with
co-occurring disorders of mental and substance-use conditions. Trained 50 staff and providers in Motivational Interviewing while adding on-site
psychiatric coverage to our substance abuse treatment program.
• Received statewide recognition of our Older Adult Program and developed three new Northland support groups for older adults dealing with depression and other life challenges.
• Tri-County was one of three initial community health centers to be jointly selected by the Department of Mental Health and Vocational Rehabilitation to lead a Johnson & Johnson Dartmouth Project on evidence-based vocational services to persons with serious mental illness.
• Reorganized Family Support Groups with a goal of helping family members better understand the disease of the brain that we call mental illness.
• Emphasized evidence-based wellness and recovery in our Day Programs to assist consumers to live independently, seek jobs, manage anger and to better integrate themselves into the community.
• Initiated a Chronic Disease Management Program to help our consumers with mental disorders better understand and manage their co-occurring physical chronic conditions. We are now serving as a Health Home to approximately 200 consumers.
• Since Tri-County began using a new child assessment tool, we have been able to provide more services to more children who may not have qualified before. We have been active in regional efforts to support evidence-based systems of care for children and their families.
Essential Internal Achievements:
• Strengthened our commitment to assure a welcoming environment both for our consumers and associates.
• Increased our commitment to electronic applications for all areas within the agency, from HR to on-line training to billing to medical records. Renewed our commitment to strengthen principles toward an electronic health record.
