Bringing Hope to the Northland

Tri-County CEO Tom Cranshaw presented Jamie Wehmeyer with the Employee of the Quarter Award.

Jamie Wehmeyer may be Exhibit Number One in how diverse the programs are at Tri-County Mental Health Services.

Recently named Employee of the Quarter, Jamie is intake and assessment supervisor for the Northland agency, managing the intake staff and performing crisis services for Clay, Platte and Ray counties.

Now entering her third year with the community mental health organization, the mother of three oversees services that are often the first helping hand for area residents with a mental illness, or part of a team that responds in crisis.

One of the first things she stress is that help is available, although it’s usually an ongoing progression, not an event. “The part I especially like is meeting them up front and giving them hope,” she explained. “That’s very gratifying. But it’s also helping them understanding that it’s a process.”

The crisis services can include considerable drama. Although many will come to Tri-County for help, including assessments and counseling, even medication, she may also be called into the community where she or her staff work with law enforcement and others.

“There are a lot of different parts to Tri-County’s programs,” she explained. “And the Northland is very spread out. But Tri-County is very focused on its clients and I like that.”
