The new Recovery Works Dual Recovery Treatment Group meets weekly at three Tri-County Mental Health Services locations.
The program is designed to help people who are seeking help with mental health issues and substance use problems. Tri-County was among the first centers in Missouri to address this widespread need to simultaneously treat co-occurring disorders in order to achieve improvement. Recovery Works therapy groups seek to integrate treatment for both disorders in an empathic, hopeful, and person-centered way.
Group facilitator Ginny Lessenden, LCSW, said topics vary, but include an emphasis on skill building. “Skill building is for everyday occasions,” she said. “It’s skills for living, but this is a very diverse group so our talks vary.”
Sessions are held every Monday from 11 a.m. to noon in Room 140 at Tri-County, 3100 NE 83rd Street, Kansas City, North.
In Excelsior Springs, sessions are held at the Skylander building, 1087 Italian Way, Suite B, each Monday from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m.
Meetings are also held every Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Lebedun Center, 5866 N.E. Russell Road, Kansas City.
Times and locations will be added as interest increases.
Lessenden has more than 20 years experience working in both out-patient and in-patient treatment settings, with both psychiatric and substance use problems. She can be reached at 816-877-0415.
