Tri-County Mental Health Services Launches Youth Suicide Prevention Web Site

According to recent data, suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth from 10 to 24 years of age in the Kansas City, Mo. area. Tri-County Mental Health Services has addressed the crisis by launching a web site centralizing information and resources on the issue.

“The web site is easily navigated and user friendly, containing extensive resources to help individuals seeking information on suicide,” Manager of Prevention Services Vicky Ward said.

Visitors to the web site https://encouragehopeandhelp.com (under heading Encourage Hope & Help) will find regional facts on suicide derived from the 2016 Missouri Student Survey and categories of help especially focused on the needs of parents, educators, youth, LGBTQ individuals, attempt survivors, loss survivors and veterans.

“Our goal in designing the web site was to provide immediate help and resource tools to anyone concerned or touched by suicide,” Kelsey Prather said. Prather is the youth suicide prevention specialist at Tri-County Mental Health Services.

National crisis hotline and other resource contact information are also available on the web site.

For additional information contact Prather at kelseyp@tri-countymhs.org or (816) 877-0496.
