Mental Health Liaison

The Mental Health Liaison program is forming stronger community partnerships between law enforcement agencies, the courts and crisis systems in order to improve access to services to high-risk individuals in our community.

The Liaison Program helps individuals to access services before a crisis occurs. We have actively outreached law enforcement and courts in Clay, Platte and Ray County in order to be support to them when dealing with a person experiencing a mental health crisis.

Since starting early this year, we have had approximately 680 contacts with law enforcement and the courts, and approximately 450 referrals have been made.

In June, 2014, the Community Mental Health Liaison began participating in home visits with the Kansas City Police Department in order to outreach to people who are desperately in need of mental health services but for whatever reason are struggling to obtain the services.
