By prioritizing self care and promoting wellness in ourselves, it can give us the means to help others during this time, be it in our jobs or at home. In taking moments for ourselves, we can prevent burn out and discover ways to better help others. Through deep breathing (specifically through your nose) and relaxation, we can calm our bodies and create a safe place to relax in.
In the book by James Nestor, “Breath, The New Science of a Lost Art,” written in collaboration with physicians and breath/nose experts, an important reason to breathe through the nose was found. Nose-breathing helps to condition the air which helps our bodies utilize the air and oxygen more efficiently. This paired with deep breathing enhances relaxation, changes blood pressure and our anxiety management.
In this video, the imagery featured is a pathway that leads to your safe place, at the edge of the safe place you leave your anxieties, fears, and worries. Once inside the safe place you explore things that bring you joy and stay, relaxing for a while. When you leave, you don’t take up the burdens left behind and know that you can return anytime you need.
